THE AREA
Balsicas was formed in the 15th century and owes its name to the Muslim-origin ponds it had. It has historical heritage sites such as Viscount Ros Castle and a church in the southern part of the town.
It has a football school and a semi-professional team called Balsicas Atlético that plays in the 1st regional league; its stadium is called “Los Cipreses”.
Despite being a hamlet, it offers numerous services, including a public primary and secondary school, a kindergarten, a municipal sports center with a paddle tennis court, an 11-a-side and 7-a-side football pitch, a swimming pool, a sports hall, and a radio-controlled car track. It also has spaces for senior citizens, a youth center, study rooms, and numerous outdoor play areas.
Fiestas
The patron saint festivities of Balsicas begin every year on October 22, since the day of the patron saint, the Virgin of the Rosary, coincides with the festivities of Torre Pacheco. Its Easter parades have been held since 1987.
Holy Week in Balsicas serves as a cultural centerpiece for the municipality during the celebrations, as it presents the largest festival in the area, with numerous brotherhoods and an ever-increasing number of visitors.
